Manipur Congress emphasized the need for peace and normalcy in the state through the dissolution of the Assembly and conducting fresh elections. The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President, Keisham Meghachandra Singh, highlighted that a new government, post fresh elections, could effectively address the current situation and bring back harmony among different communities. Singh stressed that celebrating the New Year in Manipur is challenging due to the prevailing unrest, advocating for Assembly dissolution as the key to restoring peace.
The Congress leader criticized the existing administration for its failure to resolve ethnic tensions and meet the expectations of the people. He underlined the necessity of seeking a fresh mandate from the public to establish peace and normalcy in Manipur. Additionally, Singh expressed optimism that the upcoming year could usher in peace, clarity, and justice if the government prioritizes decisions that benefit the populace.
Meanwhile, BJP legislator Tongbram Robindro Singh highlighted the recent efforts of the state government in organizing various cultural and sporting events after a prolonged hiatus. Singh urged unity among communities to foster forgiveness, understanding, and cooperation for the restoration of peace and cordial relations in the New Year. The state had witnessed President’s Rule following ethnic conflicts and the Chief Minister’s resignation in February 2025, with the Manipur Assembly’s tenure extending until 2027.
