In Imphal, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla reiterated the government’s commitment to both development and preservation of cultural heritage. Speaking at the golden jubilee of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy’s Production Unit, he praised its role in showcasing Manipuri dance and music nationally and internationally. The dance-drama Keibul Lamjao was highlighted for reflecting Manipur’s natural and cultural richness, emphasizing environmental conservation and state identity protection.
The Governor commended the efforts of choreographers, musicians, technicians, and artists for bringing the production to life. He inaugurated the year-long golden jubilee celebrations, releasing a commemorative souvenir and honoring retired senior artists and former officials for their contributions. The event marked 50 years of the Production Unit’s dedication to preserving and promoting Manipuri dance, music, and performing arts.
Attended by dignitaries including First Lady Jyoti Bhalla and officials from Sangeet Natak Akademi and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the celebration featured the dance-drama Keibul Lamjao. This performance depicted the challenges faced by the endangered Sangai, Manipur’s state animal, emphasizing the importance of conservation. The event drew a large audience of artists, cultural enthusiasts, academicians, and the public.
Governor Bhalla chaired the Advisory Committee meeting of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, paying tribute to late cultural stalwarts. The committee discussed matters related to the Academy’s development and future activities, focusing on preserving and promoting Manipuri performing arts. Senior officials from Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Academy were present at the meeting.
