Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh honored the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. The state observed the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas with heartfelt tributes. The Governor praised the Indian Armed Forces for their courage and dedication in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty during the conflict.
Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a day to remember and appreciate the armed forces’ sacrifices. The people of Manipur have a strong tradition of patriotism, with many serving in prestigious security forces. The Governor highlighted the significant contributions of Manipuri individuals in defending the nation against external threats.
Governor Bhalla emphasized the enduring legacy of patriotism, sacrifice, and national pride associated with Kargil Vijay Diwas. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the bravery of Indian soldiers and commit themselves to serving the country with discipline and patriotism. The Governor stressed the collective responsibility of national security and called for unity and peace as India progresses towards its vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh acknowledged the courage and determination of the Indian Armed Forces that led to India’s victory in the Kargil War. He highlighted the challenges faced during the conflict, including the incursion of Pakistani Army personnel and terrorists into Indian territory. The Chief Minister praised the soldiers for successfully safeguarding strategic locations and highways.
Operation Vijay, lasting 78 days, resulted in the sacrifice of around 527 soldiers, including five from Manipur. The Chief Minister commended the Indian Air Forces for their crucial role in Operation Safed Sagar, which provided air support during ground operations. He lauded the successful air strikes that disrupted enemy forces and their supply lines.
