Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced plans to develop 143 villages along Manipur’s border with Myanmar through the Vibrant Villages Programme–II. The initiative will focus on enhancing infrastructure, livelihood opportunities, and essential services in these frontier areas. The state-level workshop in Imphal emphasized the importance of border village development and coordination among various departments and agencies.
The Vibrant Villages Programme–II, described as a flagship initiative by the Union government, aims to transform villages along international borders. Chief Minister Khemchand Singh highlighted the program’s goal of improving infrastructure, livelihoods, and access to basic services in remote regions. The initiative, including five districts under its purview, seeks to enhance connectivity and government service delivery in the identified villages.
Manipur’s Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel stressed the need for meticulous planning and coordination with border guarding forces. A comprehensive gap analysis has been conducted to identify infrastructure and connectivity gaps in border regions. Priority areas include road connectivity, telecom expansion with 4G services, and electrification efforts in specific districts like Churachandpur, Kamjong, Ukhrul, Chandel, and Tengnoupal.
Major General Gaurav Sharma, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), and other key stakeholders attended the workshop to discuss the Vibrant Villages Programme–II. The program, which follows the approval of Vibrant Villages Programme–I, aims to develop 1,954 villages across 334 blocks in various states and Union Territories. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to holistic development in border regions through enhanced security, welfare programs, and improved connectivity.
