Lyricist Manoj Muntashir has backed veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar’s choice to decline recreating the iconic song “Sandese Aate Hain” for Border 2. Muntashir, who took on the task after Akhtar’s refusal, praised the legendary lyricist’s decision. He emphasized that it is Akhtar’s right as a creator to decline if he doesn’t feel inspired to add to a piece.
Muntashir mentioned that despite Akhtar’s refusal, he received blessings from him for the project. Akhtar encouraged Muntashir and composer Mithoon to proceed with the recreation. The lyricist acknowledged the original creators, Javed Akhtar and Anu Malik, stating that the song belongs solely to them and is their legacy.
Regarding the recreated song, Muntashir expressed deep respect for the original creators and clarified that their version was a tribute, adding a few elements with love. He highlighted the emotional depth of the song “Sandese Aate Hain,” describing it as a heartfelt tribute to timeless emotions and lyrical legacy.
The upcoming film “Border 2,” directed by Anurag Singh, features a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and others. The movie is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.
