Singer Mariah Carey has achieved a legal victory regarding her popular song ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’. The legal dispute began in 2023 when songwriters Andy Stone and Troy Powers alleged that Carey had copied their 1989 song of the same name. Despite the initial lawsuit being dismissed, the legal issues persisted, leading to a recent ruling in Carey’s favor.
The judge in the case has ordered the songwriters of Vince Vance & The Valiants to compensate Mariah Carey. She has been granted $92,303.20 in sanctions due to the lack of merit in the lawsuit filed against her. The court documents revealed that the song in question received significant airplay in 1993, a year before Carey released her version.
In addition to her legal success, Mariah Carey’s holiday track has achieved a new milestone by spending its 100th week at Number 1 on the Hot 100 chart. ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ has broken records by holding the longest leading Number 1 spot on the Billboard chart, along with her other hit songs like ‘Visions of Love’ and ‘Emotions’.
