Leading car manufacturers Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Toyota Kirloskar Motor have reassured customers regarding the use of E20 petrol. They stated that extensive testing and real-world data have shown no evidence of E20 causing engine damage, excessive wear and tear, or an increase in insurance claims. Executives from both companies emphasized that concerns about E20 fuel are largely unfounded, attributing vehicle-related complaints more to fuel contamination or adulteration rather than the ethanol content.
Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Officer Rahul Bharti mentioned that the company conducted thorough testing on both new and older vehicles. He expressed confidence in stating that there are no concerns regarding corrosion, wear and tear, or reduction in life due to E20 fuel. Testing on vehicles manufactured before 2010 also revealed no abnormal wear or reliability issues.
According to Bharti, Maruti Suzuki serviced over 2.5 crore vehicles during FY26, including 1.5 crore older-generation cars, without observing any E20 fuel-related concerns. He assured customers that even in older cars, no issues were noticed, encouraging the confident use of E20 fuel in Maruti Suzuki vehicles.
Similarly, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Country Head Vikram Gulati echoed the sentiment, stating that neither Toyota nor the wider automobile industry has experienced an increase in vehicle issues due to E20 petrol. Gulati highlighted that there have been no complaints related to E20 fuel at Toyota dealerships, and both companies dismissed concerns about E20 fuel leading to a rise in insurance claims.
Both manufacturers acknowledged that E20 petrol may result in a slight reduction in fuel efficiency due to ethanol’s lower calorific value compared to petrol.
