Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced a significant increase in gender diversity, surpassing 1,300 women employees across various functions. This growth is attributed to enhanced recruitment efforts at the Gurugram and Manesar facilities, particularly on the shopfloor. Over the past two years, the company has been actively hiring women for roles in vehicle manufacturing, engine, and transmission, with these employees now playing crucial roles in assembly lines and quality control processes.
The women employees at Maruti Suzuki undergo comprehensive on-the-job training and skill development programs, ensuring they have equal opportunities for career advancement within the organization. Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi highlighted the company’s commitment to maintaining a balanced gender representation across functions like engineering, marketing, finance, and logistics. He emphasized the importance of women’s integration on the shopfloor, where their contributions directly impact the production of high-quality vehicles.
Takeuchi expressed a personal goal to further strengthen women’s presence on the shopfloor and outlined steps taken to create a supportive environment. These initiatives include infrastructure upgrades such as dedicated restrooms, changing areas, crèche facilities, and enhanced security measures like guards and patrolling during evening shifts. Maruti Suzuki has also implemented sensitization programs to promote inclusivity and openness among employees, along with mandatory Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) training to ensure workplace safety and awareness.
