Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and efforts in enhancing ties between the two countries. Under PM Modi’s guidance, India has initiated numerous finance infrastructure projects in Mauritius, including the USD 680 million special economic package, reflecting the significance New Delhi places on its relationship with Port Louis.
Ramful highlighted that during PM Modi’s tenure, several Indian finance infrastructure projects have been established in Mauritius, such as the ENT Hospital, Metro Express, Supreme Court Building, and the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute. The recent special economic package announced by India further underscores the importance Mauritius holds under PM Modi’s leadership.
Last year, India unveiled a Special Economic Package (SEP) of USD 680 million during Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam’s State Visit to India, encompassing various key projects like the New Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital and the AYUSH Centre of Excellence. Ramful also emphasized PM Modi’s popularity in Mauritius, noting the warm reception he received during his visit in 2025 and the prestigious honor bestowed upon him by the country.
Cultural diplomacy between India and Mauritius has played a vital role in preserving Indian values, traditions, and language in Mauritius, as highlighted by Ramful. The strong historical ties between the two nations have facilitated the retention of cultural heritage, with initiatives like the Mahatma Gandhi Institute promoting Indian culture and the issuance of OCI cards to seventh-generation Indian descendants ensuring the preservation of this rich heritage for future generations.
