Four-time Trinamool Congress legislator and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor, Firhad Hakim, refuted awareness of the corporation investigating properties allegedly owned by Trinamool Congress General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee. The KMC issued notices under Section 400(1) of the KMC Act, 1980 to 17 properties associated with Abhishek Banerjee within its jurisdiction, allowing owners of suspected illegal constructions to present their case.
Hakim stated that as per the KMC Act, he is solely a policymaker and was unaware of the notices. He emphasized that decisions in such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the KMC Commissioner, a bureaucrat with the authority to make such determinations. Hakim clarified that he had not been informed about the issue and highlighted the Commissioner’s autonomy in such decisions.
During a meeting of Trinamool Congress legislators, Abhishek Banerjee asserted his resolve against the new BJP-led regime, stating his determination to continue the fight regardless of any actions taken against him. The BJP’s West Bengal unit released a list of 43 properties allegedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee, which the Trinamool Congress dismissed as fabricated and lacking credibility.
