The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Chabahar Port terminal in Iran did not suffer any damage. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiwal clarified that despite reports suggesting otherwise, the terminal remained unaffected. The US Defense Secretary’s post hinting at targeting Chabahar did not impact India’s operations there.
Pete Hegseth, the US Defense Secretary, shared an image of a tower collapsing amid US-Iran tensions, but did not specify the location. India had obtained a six-month waiver on US sanctions against Chabahar port last year, valid until April 29. Iranian Foreign Minister praised Chabahar as a symbol of Iran-India cooperation and hoped for its continued development despite US sanctions.
India and Iran had finalized a long-term agreement for Chabahar Port operations, with India committing USD 250 million for infrastructure development. Plans were in place to connect the port to Iran’s railway network through a 700 km rail line to Zahedan.
