The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it is closely monitoring developments in West Asia to ensure the safety and welfare of the Indian community in the region. Aseem R Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) at MEA, mentioned that Indian embassies and consulates are providing assistance through round-the-clock helplines. Efforts are being made to address concerns of the resident Indian community abroad.
The MEA is actively sharing information with state governments and union territories to coordinate efforts. A special control room has been set up to respond to queries from Indian nationals and their families. Indian missions in the region are issuing updated advisories and operating helplines to offer timely assistance. They are also collaborating with local authorities to assist Indian seafarers.
Additional Secretary Mahajan highlighted the improving flight situation in the Gulf, with more flights operating to India from various destinations. Indian nationals have been advised against traveling to Iran, and those residing there are encouraged to return with embassy support.
Flights are operating from different countries in the region to India, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq. Limited flight operations are available in Iran and Israel for onward travel to India.
