Actress Meenakshi Seshadri recently revisited the iconic track ‘Hey You’ from the 1988 film Shahenshah, her debut movie with megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Describing it as one of her earliest item numbers, she shared a video on Instagram dancing to the song originally sung by Asha Bhosle. The outdoor shoot in Pune amidst heavy rain added a fresh touch to the classic song, which she believes remains captivating even today.
Meenakshi expressed her nostalgia, stating, “Hey You… One of the first of the few item songs I performed in my career. Shahenshah marked my first on-screen role with my favorite actor Amitabh Bachchan.” She praised the song’s elements, including Asha Bhosle’s vocals, the elaborate set, stunning outfits, and choreography by Kamal Master.
Revisiting the song for a reel, Meenakshi shifted the location outdoors, braving thunderous rain showers during the shoot in Pune. Despite the change, she emphasized that the song’s appeal has endured over time. She also highlighted the talents of her choreographer Swara and videographer Fahim, aiming to surpass the success of their previous viral reels.
Shahenshah, directed by Tinnu Anand, features Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role alongside Meenakshi Seshadri, Praan, Amrish Puri, Prem Chopra, Sharat Saxena, and Murad in supporting roles. The film, which marked Bachchan’s return to the big screen after a hiatus due to his political foray, emerged as the second highest-grossing Indian film of 1988, competing strongly with other hits of the year like Tezaab and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
