Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed satisfaction at distributing land pattas to settlers of Government Administrative Department (GAD) land in Tura Town Area, calling it a significant moment showcasing cooperation between the government and the people. The Chief Minister emphasized that this collaboration was crucial for inclusive development, highlighting the positive outcomes of mutual trust and coordination between the administration and residents.
The absence of proper land documents had previously caused challenges for residents, including legal and financial obstacles. By formalizing land ownership through pattas, these issues are expected to be resolved, empowering people and providing them with a sense of security. Sangma also assured that similar land-related concerns in other areas would be addressed gradually, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving such matters in consultation with the people.
The distribution of land documents in Tura Town Area, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), West Garo Hills District, is part of the state government’s efforts to streamline land records and enhance land governance in urban and semi-urban regions. District officials highlighted that this initiative would bring clarity to land ownership, enhance record management, and reduce disputes, marking a significant stride towards transparent and people-centric land administration. The event, attended by senior district officials, community leaders, beneficiaries, and residents, was welcomed as a crucial step towards securing land rights.
