Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stressed the need for skill development programs to offer more than just training. He highlighted the importance of providing practical support systems to ensure youth can secure employment and become self-reliant. Sangma made these remarks during his participation in the Skillerate 2026 program in Tura.
The event, organized by the Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development in partnership with the CM Skills Mission and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), involved the distribution of work orders valued at over Rs 16.59 crore. Nearly 800 beneficiaries also received start-up tools as part of the initiative.
Speaking at Holly Hocks near BAKDIL Training Centre, Chief Minister Sangma acknowledged feedback received through the CM Connect initiative. This feedback consistently highlighted the necessity for enhanced livelihood opportunities, self-employment support, and skill-based training for the youth.
Meghalaya’s economic progress was underscored by Chief Minister Sangma, who noted the state’s emergence as one of the fastest-growing economies in the country. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that economic growth is inclusive and directly benefits ordinary citizens, farmers, workers, and entrepreneurs.
Labor, Employment, and Skill Development Minister Methodius Dkhar emphasized the role of skill development in bridging the gap between an individual’s potential and their life’s purpose. He expressed optimism about the youth’s potential as future entrepreneurs, innovators, and changemakers of Meghalaya.
