Hollywood icon Meryl Streep disclosed that Pierce Brosnan, known for his role as James Bond, was anxious about encountering Daniel Craig, his successor as 007, while dressed in a flamboyant Spandex outfit during the filming of the 2008 ABBA musical “Mamma Mia!”. Streep mentioned that Brosnan, who portrayed James Bond from 1995 to 2002, was apprehensive about the potential embarrassment of such a meeting. The cast, except for Brosnan, enjoyed their time filming in the UK despite the unusually rainy summer.
During an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Streep reminisced about the challenging weather conditions during the shoot, noting that London experienced its rainiest summer on record. Despite the adverse weather, filming at Pinewood Studios transformed the surroundings into a sunny Greece, creating a surreal and enjoyable atmosphere. Streep recalled the fun they had on set, except for Brosnan’s concerns about running into Daniel Craig while in his Spandex attire.
Reflecting on her experience, Streep expressed fond memories of the movie, emphasizing the friendships she formed and the enjoyment she derived from the project. She mentioned that despite the challenges, she cherished the time spent working on “Mamma Mia!” and the lasting connections made during the production. Streep also shared her disinterest in writing a memoir about her life, deeming it uninteresting, and hinted at a potential return to Broadway after two decades.
