Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, rejecting foreign interference, especially from the United States. She highlighted the importance of adhering to Mexico’s constitution and national security law in any international cooperation. Sheinbaum expressed concerns about potential involvement of foreign intelligence agents in an operation in Chihuahua, stressing that such actions would breach Mexican law.
Sheinbaum criticized calls for foreign intervention in Mexico’s internal affairs, urging all government levels and citizens to abide by national laws. She mentioned plans to ensure that collaborations with foreign agencies are in line with legal frameworks and coordinated with relevant Mexican authorities. The President previously stated that the federal government was unaware of US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agents participating in an anti-narcotics operation in northern Mexico.
The presence of US agents in an operation against organized crime in Chihuahua raised national security and sovereignty concerns, according to Sheinbaum. She highlighted the need to verify the accreditation of these agents and requested relevant information from the US Ambassador to Mexico. She emphasized that any security-related relationship with the US government should be conducted through the federal government and without unauthorized operations in Mexico.
