The licence of a milk unit in Bijbehara town of J&K’s Anantnag district was suspended due to multiple violations. The suspension came after a video emerged showing unsafe milk handling practices, leading to an inspection that uncovered various infractions. An official order highlighted issues like improper storage of chemicals, use of non-food-grade containers, and lack of hygiene practices at the facility.
Authorities took action following a social media video allegedly showing an employee tasting milk and putting it back into containers for public consumption. The inspection report flagged violations such as storing chemicals in the milk section, using inappropriate containers, and unhygienic practices. The licence suspension was deemed necessary to address the risks to public health posed by the unsanitary conditions.
The suspension was based on violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, with authorities citing concerns about the safety of high-risk food items stored under substandard conditions. The designated officer invoked powers under the Act to suspend the unit’s licence immediately, pending further investigation. The operator was instructed to cease operations at the premises until further notice to ensure consumer safety.
Authorities in Kashmir have been conducting food safety audits on various establishments dealing with essential items to safeguard consumer health and well-being.
