The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship will conduct a ‘breakout session’ focusing on enhancing India’s care ecosystem as part of the Post‑Budget Webinar series. This session aims to train 1.5 lakh “multiskilled caregivers” to address the growing domestic needs in India and explore global opportunities in the care sector. The webinar will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for implementing the vision outlined in the Budget Speech 2026‑27.
Budget Speech 2026‑27 emphasized the importance of building a robust Care Ecosystem covering geriatric and allied care services. The finance minister announced the development of NSQF-aligned programs to train multiskilled caregivers with core care and allied skills like wellness, yoga, and medical device operation. Over the next year, 1.5 lakh caregivers will undergo training as part of this initiative.
The Union Budget 2026–27 unveiled plans to bolster the care ecosystem through NSQF-aligned training programs that integrate core caregiving competencies with allied skills such as wellness support, yoga, and medical device operation. The upcoming webinar will bring together healthcare experts, state governments, international organizations, and academia to discuss standardizing caregiver qualifications, enhancing trainer capacity, infrastructure, and expanding apprenticeship opportunities.
India’s skilling ecosystem is undergoing enhancements to meet the changing workforce demands, with a focus on caregiver roles like Geriatric Caregiver, Home Health Aide, and General Duty Assistant. Institutions like the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)/National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) are playing a crucial role in strengthening the skilling landscape to cater to these evolving needs.
