Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu showcased an exceptional performance at the National Weightlifting Championship 2026, breaking three national records in the women’s 48kg category. Competing in a new weight class, she achieved a total lift of 205kg, securing gold with record-breaking lifts in snatch, clean and jerk, and overall total.
Mirabai’s total weight lifted saw a significant 6kg improvement from her previous best, reaching 205kg at the World Championships in December 2023. Transitioning to the 48kg category in 2022, she has consistently excelled, winning first place at the Commonwealth Championships in 2023 and securing second place at the 2022 World Championships.
Having won an Olympic silver medal in Tokyo 2020 and finishing fourth in Paris 2024, Mirabai’s strategic move to the 48kg category has proven successful. She is now poised to transition to the 53kg category post the Asian Games, aiming for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
