Nineteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva secured a spot in the French Open semifinals for the second time by defeating Romania’s Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-3 in just 56 minutes at Court Philippe Chatrier in Stade Roland Garros. This victory marks Andreeva’s smooth progression into the final four, solidifying her presence in the WTA tour. Andreeva controlled the game from the start, allowing Cirstea only nine points in the first six games and not conceding any game points or break opportunities in the first set.
The age gap between Andreeva and Cirstea made this match the most significant at a women’s Grand Slam singles quarterfinal since 1991, but Andreeva’s skill and precision were too much for her opponent. Cirstea managed to get on the scoreboard at the beginning of the second set and kept pace with Andreeva until the sixth game, where Andreeva took charge by winning the next three games flawlessly, securing a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Andreeva’s performance included 18 winners against Cirstea’s 20 errors, with Andreeva converting all six break points she created.
With this win, Andreeva extends her head-to-head record against Cirstea to 2-0 and leads the WTA Tour in matches won this season, totaling 34 victories, including team events. Her 20th clay court win of the year also places her at the top for clay court victories on the WTA tour in 2026. Next, Andreeva will face the winner between the seventh seed, Elina Svitolina, and the fifteenth seed, Marta Kostyuk, in her upcoming match. She holds a 1-1 record against Svitolina but has yet to defeat Kostyuk after losing to her twice in 2026.
