Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma stated that visible drug abuse in the state has significantly decreased due to collaborative efforts by various stakeholders. Many individuals struggling with addiction have been successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated into society. Ahead of the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, a discussion program was held in Aizawl addressing the challenges of drug abuse.
The Chief Minister emphasized the collective actions taken by the government, civil society organizations, churches, and community leaders to tackle drug-related issues. Measures included the establishment of committees, targeted anti-drug operations, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation programs. The Young Mizo Association (YMA) initiated a year-long anti-drug campaign and conducted operations across Mizoram.
Efforts also involved partnerships with rehabilitation centers to enhance treatment services for addiction-affected individuals. Lalduhoma urged the public, especially the youth, to resist the temptation of drugs and highlighted the destructive impact of substance abuse on individuals and families. He condemned those involved in the illegal drug trade for the harm caused to communities and families.
The Chief Minister cautioned against drug trafficking tactics that exploit trust and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities promptly. Various government officials, including ministers and the Chief Secretary, addressed the gathering, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free Mizoram. Participants pledged to support ongoing efforts against substance abuse and illicit trafficking.
