Mizoram has seen a significant increase in tourist arrivals, becoming the fastest-growing state for tourism in the Northeast region. From April to December 2025, the state welcomed a total of 6,79,607 tourists, with 9,606 being foreign visitors. This marks a 29.50% rise compared to the previous year, showcasing a notable surge in tourism.
In December 2025, Mizoram experienced its highest-ever tourist footfall of 1,33,520, indicating a remarkable 122.11% increase from the same month in 2024. This consistent growth has positioned Mizoram at the forefront among the eight Northeastern states in terms of tourist footfall.
Recognizing its tourism potential, Mizoram received the “Emerging Eco and Nature Retreat Award” at the International Tourism Conclave and Travel Awards in New Delhi in July 2025. The state also hosted the inaugural Mizoram Travel Fest in October 2025, focusing on promoting eco-tourism through various events and collaborations.
The Tourism Ministry allocated Rs 5.47 crores for enhancing amenities at Vangchhia under the PRASHAD scheme. Vangchhia, known for its ancient necropolis site, received funding for preservation and development initiatives. Additionally, projects like the Vantawng View Aerial Ropeway and the Convention Centre at Thingsulthliah have been approved to boost tourism infrastructure in Mizoram.
A Live Museum showcasing traditional Mizo life in Zokhua, Falkawn, has gained popularity and will continue until March 2026. These initiatives aim to preserve cultural heritage, promote local skills, and enhance the overall tourism experience in Mizoram.
