Another operation at a restaurant in Aizawl district yielded 4.770 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs 3.82 crore. Three individuals from southern Assam were arrested in connection with this seizure. Additionally, a vehicle interception in Aizawl district led to the recovery of 9.016 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets valued at about Rs 7.21 crore, with the driver being apprehended.
Furthermore, a joint operation recovered 21.330 grams of suspected heroin in Aizawl district, resulting in the arrest of a drug peddler from Khawzawl district of Mizoram. Lastly, in Lunglei district, officials seized 71.59 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 14.31 lakh, and arrested two individuals.
The Mizoram Police have initiated five cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and are conducting thorough investigations to uncover the drug source, trafficking network, and potential involvement of others. Mizoram’s vulnerability to drug trafficking is attributed to its porous international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to dismantle drug trafficking networks along these borders.
