The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to restart Monorail services between Chembur and Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk in both directions. The services had been halted since September 20 last year for system upgrades and future operations. This pause was crucial for integrating new Rolling Stock and advanced Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling upgrades.
The MMRDA recently announced that the Monorail has obtained mandatory safety certification for its new rolling stock and CBTC-based signaling system. This certification was granted by the Independent Safety Assessor, Bureau Veritas. The next step involves appointing a retired Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety official to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the entire 19.54 km Monorail corridor for final statutory clearance.
Following successful completion of critical milestones, including testing and inspections, the Monorail is gearing up for a comeback with 21 modern upgrades. These enhancements include CCTV cameras, Divyang-friendly seats, charging points, dynamic route maps, improved suspension, fire-safety compliance, modern interiors, and surveillance systems. The MMRDA emphasized its commitment to delivering a safer and more reliable Monorail service for the people of Mumbai.
