Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district have temporarily suspended mobile Internet services as a security measure. The suspension includes 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G services in specific areas like Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo. This precautionary step aims to prevent misuse by anti-national elements and is in effect from 12.01 a.m. to 11.59 p.m. on January 30.
The decision to suspend mobile data services was made by the Home Department of the union territory. The order, issued by Principal Secretary Chandraker Bharti, was based on inputs from the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone. The directive covers a six-kilometer radius around the identified locations to ensure security measures are in place.
Concerns were raised that high-speed mobile data services could be exploited by miscreants, potentially leading to public order disturbances. The authorities emphasized that this suspension is crucial for maintaining public order and safeguarding the security of Jammu and Kashmir. The move was made in the interest of national sovereignty and integrity, as well as the security of the union territory.
Mobile Internet suspensions have been previously implemented in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent misuse by terrorists and anti-social elements. Additionally, the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) has been banned in most districts to prevent anti-national elements from concealing their identities. Recent security operations in Singhpora village resulted in a confrontation where terrorists attacked security forces, resulting in casualties among the forces.
