Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has criticized the Indian team management for their handling of batters Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson during the 4-0 T20I series loss to England. Kaif expressed his disappointment, calling the team management the most confused he has ever seen.
India, the reigning T20 World Cup champions, faced a disappointing tour, suffering defeats to Ireland and England, resulting in a drop from the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings. The tour was marked by questionable selection decisions, especially regarding young talent Sooryavanshi and Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup, Samson.
Kaif highlighted the need for giving confidence rather than doubts to players like Sooryavanshi and Samson. He criticized the management for the inconsistent handling of the two talented batters, emphasizing the importance of nurturing their potential.
Sanju Samson, who initially played three games but struggled, was dropped to make way for Sooryavanshi, who also failed to perform. The constant changes in the lineup added to the confusion. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar urged selectors to consider performances beyond the Indian Premier League (IPL) and select players based on their adaptability to overseas conditions.
