Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressed concern that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have complicated their path to the playoffs by losing to Gujarat Titans (GT) by 82 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Kaif emphasized the importance of SRH winning their upcoming match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 18 to secure a top-two position. He noted the challenge for SRH to defeat CSK away from home due to the contrasting conditions.
Kaif highlighted the significance of adapting to different conditions in the tournament, pointing out SRH’s struggle to do so against Gujarat. He suggested that this issue needs addressing within the team without panicking. Kaif mentioned SRH’s upcoming match against Punjab at home, where they are comfortable, but emphasized the necessity of winning against CSK to aim for a top-two finish.
The match saw Gujarat Titans recover from early setbacks to post 168 runs, with Sundar and Sai Sudharsan’s partnership being crucial. Despite setting what seemed like a modest target on a challenging pitch, Gujarat’s bowlers restricted SRH to a mere 86 runs, with the pace attack and spinners combining effectively. Following this defeat, SRH slipped to the third spot in the points table with 14 points from 12 matches, gearing up to face CSK and RCB in their remaining group stage fixtures.
