In Bengaluru, a tragic incident unfolded as a woman, identified as Suvarna, 40, allegedly killed her 14-year-old daughter, Karunya, before taking her own life. The mother is suspected of smothering her daughter to death in a room and then hanging herself from a ceiling fan. The shocking discovery was made in their residence in Immedihalli under the Whitefield police station area when family members checked on them after unanswered phone calls.
Suvarna’s husband, Chandrashekar, who had left for work in the morning, grew concerned when he couldn’t reach his wife. Prompted by his unanswered calls, he sent his brother to investigate. Upon entering the room around 11 a.m., the distressing scene was revealed. Whitefield police responded to the situation, conducted an examination, and moved the bodies for post-mortem procedures. An investigation is ongoing, with a case registered in this regard.
According to Suresh Kumar, Suvarna’s brother, the couple had been married for 18 years and had two children. While their son is studying in a hostel, Karunya was residing with her parents and grandparents. The family is puzzled about the motive behind the tragic event. Suvarna’s sister, Usha, suggested that financial troubles might have led to her mental distress.
Further probing is being carried out by the police to determine the precise cause of the incident. The authorities received information that the mother and daughter committed suicide at 11 a.m. Whitefield police reported that the mother had smothered her daughter and then hanged herself. Two cases have been filed—one by Chandrashekhar for his daughter’s killing and another by Suvarna’s brother, Manjunath, expressing suspicions over the deaths.
