Prohibitory orders will be in place in Mumbai from Thursday until August 6, restricting gatherings of five or more people due to recent demonstrations supporting the Cockroach Janata Party movement in New Delhi. The Mumbai Police issued these orders as a precautionary measure to uphold law and order following recent protests. Eight FIRs were filed against nearly 900 individuals for participating in demonstrations backing the Cockroach Janata Party’s campaign regarding the NEET paper leak.

The police decision was based on information suggesting a potential breach of peace and public disturbance, posing risks to lives and properties. Enhanced police presence at critical locations in Mumbai aims to deter new gatherings or any law and order issues during the enforcement of these orders. The restrictions, authorized under Section 37 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, aim to prevent disorder and maintain public peace.

The prohibitory orders prohibit carrying arms or explosives and also ban public displays of persons, effigies, slogans, music, speeches, or gestures that may disrupt public order. Organizing protests without permission may lead to legal action under relevant sections of the law. The recent violent protests on July 20 by CJP supporters and students demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister over exam irregularities prompted these measures.
