In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, Mumbai Police apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals who had reportedly been living in India without proper documentation for around 15 years. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Police in Andheri conducted a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs to detain these individuals suspected of unauthorized entry and residence in the country.
The arrested group includes four men, two women, and a minor boy. Following their apprehension, authorities initiated a thorough investigation into their backgrounds, movements, and connections. Initial inquiries revealed that the accused had maintained contact with relatives and associates in Bangladesh through telephonic communication.
The MIDC Police Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) acted on information suggesting that a group of undocumented foreign nationals was seeking employment in the area. Subsequently, officers set up a trap and intercepted the suspects. Further investigations are ongoing to identify potential accomplices who may have facilitated the group’s entry, accommodation, or employment in India over the years.
Amid an intensified campaign by Maharashtra Police against undocumented Bangladeshi nationals residing in various cities across the state, these arrests mark a notable development. Recent months have seen law enforcement agencies conducting intelligence-based operations and verification drives to address the issue of illegal foreign nationals living in India.
