Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the importance of specialized investigation and advanced technology in addressing security challenges like extortion, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and crimes against women and children. He flagged off 549 new police vehicles and 12 Mobile Forensic Vans at the Police Complex in Chumoukedima, stressing the need for modern criminal law enforcement through scientific methods. Rio called for enhanced human resources investment and continuous training in areas like cyber forensics and financial intelligence to ensure a transition towards more effective and community-centered policing in Nagaland.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to support the police by reporting crimes promptly and aiding lawful investigations for the state’s progress. He expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for their backing in the police modernization initiative. The procurement of 549 police vehicles and 12 Mobile Forensic Vans under the ASUMP scheme marks a significant step in enhancing policing, mobility, and scientific investigation in Nagaland.
Rio revealed that these new vehicles, acquired at a cost of approximately Rs 81.65 crore, will replace a substantial portion of the aging police fleet, thereby boosting operational readiness. He emphasized the critical role of mobility in effective policing across Nagaland’s challenging terrain, where timely response to emergencies and crime prevention rely on reliable transportation. The Chief Minister underscored the importance of responsible vehicle usage, regular maintenance, and prompt replacement of condemned vehicles to maintain an efficient fleet for effective law enforcement.
Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma hailed the induction of the new vehicles as a significant milestone in enhancing the operational and forensic capabilities of the state police force. He expressed appreciation for the support from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the state government in advancing police modernization efforts. Sharma highlighted the need for continued focus on technology, cybercrime, and forensic science to address evolving security challenges effectively.
