The Nagpur Regional Unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, uncovered an interstate drug smuggling syndicate, confiscating over 522 kg of ganja worth around Rs 2.61 crore. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted a truck at the Mathni toll plaza near Mouda in Nagpur district. Inside the vehicle, a hidden compartment revealed the stash of cannabis, part of a drug trafficking network from Odisha to Maharashtra.
Two individuals associated with the smuggling ring were arrested and confessed to their role in transporting the contraband. They face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as investigations continue to identify other syndicate members. This seizure is part of a series of successful anti-drug operations conducted by the DRI, including recent busts in Bihar and the dismantling of a drug trafficking racket in Nagpur.
In a separate operation, DRI officers intercepted a female passenger on a train passing through Nagpur Railway Station and discovered cocaine concealed in shampoo bottles in her luggage. The thorough search led to the recovery of 50 capsules of cocaine, resulting in a significant seizure and ongoing investigation.
