In a significant victory against narcotics trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jaipur Zonal Unit, achieved a conviction in a case involving the interstate smuggling of illegal opium. The Special Judge (NDPS) Court in Ajmer convicted Jawarilal, a resident of Dangiyawas in Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, for his role in the drug trafficking case. The conviction was related to the transportation of 40.850 kilograms of opium in a truck intercepted near Gegal Toll Plaza in Ajmer in May 2020.
The NCB’s investigation revealed that the illegal opium, concealed in a specially designed compartment near the truck’s fuel tank, was being transported from Sherghati in Bihar to Pali in Rajasthan. Following a thorough examination of the evidence and arguments from both sides, the Special Court found Jawarilal guilty under the NDPS Act. Consequently, he was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh for his involvement in the smuggling operation.
The NCB highlighted that Jawarilal, the convicted individual, was the owner of the truck used in the illegal transportation of the narcotic substance. The seized vehicle was confiscated and later auctioned as part of the legal proceedings. This successful prosecution underscores the NCB’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that offenders face legal consequences. The agency emphasized the importance of public support in the fight against drug-related crimes and encouraged citizens to report any information through the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline (Toll-Free No. 1933) while ensuring the confidentiality of informers.
