The National Commission for Women recently held its key national consultation, “Shakti Samvaad,” uniting members and representatives of State Women Commissions to address crucial issues concerning women’s and children’s safety, empowerment, and rights. The event aimed to enhance collaboration between the NCW and state bodies for more efficient grassroots interventions and quicker grievance redressal processes.

During the program, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of educating boys and men to foster a truly equitable society. She highlighted that educating sons is now as essential as educating daughters, as instilling values of respect, equality, and responsibility in boys from a young age is crucial for women to feel secure, respected, and empowered in society. Gupta called for collective efforts to create communities where every woman can experience dignity and security.

At the consultation, discussions centered on achieving the national goal of a “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat.” Participants explored community-driven strategies, awareness campaigns, and coordinated efforts with State Commissions to eliminate child marriages entirely. Additionally, a significant session outlined plans to expand Jan Sunwai programs to ensure prompt resolution of complaints from even the most remote areas.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized that Jan Sunwai goes beyond grievance redressal, symbolizing a steadfast commitment to amplifying women’s voices, addressing concerns, and safeguarding rights. The Commission is set to commemorate its 34th Foundation Day on January 30, with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda as the Chief Guest, and Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi and Minister of State Savitri Thakur as Guests of Honour.

The Foundation Day event will showcase NCW’s accomplishments over three decades in policy advocacy, legal reforms, crisis intervention, and empowerment initiatives, reaffirming its dedication to creating a safer and more inclusive India for women and girls. Through initiatives like Shakti Samvaad, the Commission continues to enhance the national framework for gender justice by fostering collaboration between central and state institutions and amplifying grassroots voices.
