In response to the escalating US-Israel-Iran conflict, Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president, has called on the Indian government to swiftly evacuate migrant workers, professionals, students, and tourists from Odisha stranded in Gulf nations. Patnaik expressed concern for the safety of Odia migrants facing risks in the Middle East due to the heightened conflict situation.
Highlighting the challenges faced by Odia individuals affected by the conflict, Patnaik emphasized the urgent need for support as disruptions in air travel have left many in uncertainty. Through social media, he appealed for immediate action to ensure the well-being and safe return of those stranded in the conflict zone, urging External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to intervene promptly.
Patnaik’s plea for assistance follows Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi’s efforts to secure the return of stranded Odias from war-affected regions, including Dubai. The state government, in coordination with the Central Government, is working to facilitate the safe repatriation of its citizens, reflecting a broader commitment to ensuring the welfare of Odia residents caught in the turmoil abroad.
Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Odia students, workers, tourists, and professionals in Iran are facing a climate of fear and uncertainty. Many have reached out to the Indian authorities, seeking evacuation or relocation to safer locations as the conflict escalates, underscoring the pressing need for swift and decisive action to safeguard the lives of those stranded.
