Nawada Police have swiftly solved the murder case of a youth in Kauakol within 12 hours, apprehending four notorious criminals associated with the illegal liquor trade. The incident, which occurred on January 22, 2026, involved an attack on a youth at the Nati River bridge under the Kauakol police station area around 8:30 p.m.
Addressing a press conference, Nawada Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman revealed that the crime stemmed from an old rivalry related to the illicit liquor business. The victim, assaulted by criminals, was rushed to Kauakol Primary Health Centre for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to injuries during medical care.
The police, acting on information provided by the victim’s family, filed an FIR against seven named suspects. Following the Superintendent of Police’s directives, a special team, including the SDPO and the District Intelligence Unit, conducted raids. Subsequently, on January 23, the police, after receiving intelligence, apprehended four suspects at Dharawan Mod Pahartali, where they were allegedly planning a robbery.
The arrested criminals, during interrogation, admitted that the attack was a result of an ongoing power struggle and personal enmity associated with the illegal liquor trade. Police recovered a significant amount of weapons and vehicles from the suspects, including two country-made pistols, live cartridges, mobile phones, a Scorpio SUV, and a Bullet motorcycle.
The arrested individuals, identified as Chandan Mahto, Rakesh Yadav alias Rakku, Rakesh Kumar, and Kuldeep Mandal alias Kuldeep Kumar, are residents of Nawada and Jamui. Chandan Mahto, the prime accused, has a history of serious offenses, including cases under the Arms Act and possession of stolen property. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects as the investigation continues.
