The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned comedians Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, and Madhur Virli regarding objectionable content circulating on social media that is deemed harmful to women’s dignity. The matter is set for a hearing on June 22 at 4:00 P.M. at the NCW office in New Delhi. The controversy arose from a video shared by Pranit More, where Himanshu Jangra allegedly made a derogatory comment equating a woman’s dignity with “Rs 370 ki biryani,” leading to widespread criticism on social platforms.
Following the backlash, both the comedian and the audience member issued apologies, but the video had already been extensively shared before its deletion, and Jangra deactivated his Instagram account. This incident sparked strong online reactions, with many condemning the remarks. Jangra reportedly lost his job in Gurugram due to the controversy, prompting the NCW to take notice of the issue.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar had earlier written to the Director General of Police, Haryana, urging swift action. She called for an FIR under relevant laws and a detailed report within seven days. Notices were then sent to Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra to appear before the Commission on June 22, 2026, at 4 P.M. Reports also indicated that Pranit More briefly deactivated his Instagram account but later returned with another apology video, seeking public forgiveness.
In a separate incident, an old video of Madhur Virli from 2024 resurfaced online, where he made an offensive comment during a stand-up act, drawing criticism. Virli later clarified on his YouTube channel, expressing genuine remorse for his remarks.
