The National Commission for Women (NCW) has shown concern over the reported kidnapping, intoxication, and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Bengaluru. The incident has raised serious worries about the safety of minor girls and the need for strong action against sexual offenders. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has urged the Karnataka Director General of Police to intervene promptly for a thorough and fair investigation.

The NCW has emphasized the importance of filing a comprehensive charge sheet swiftly under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. They have also stressed the collection of forensic, medical, and digital evidence to bolster the inquiry. Additionally, the NCW has called for security measures, victim compensation, legal aid, and psychological counseling for the survivor and her family, along with increased vigilance in vulnerable areas to prevent future incidents.

In a bid for accountability, the NCW has requested an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Karnataka DGP within seven days. The Commission has pledged to closely monitor the case to ensure justice is served. This intervention by the NCW comes amidst rising concerns about crimes against women and children, reaffirming its dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of sexual violence survivors.

The case involves the alleged abduction and rape of the 14-year-old girl by an autorickshaw driver at an under-construction site in Devanahalli on July 17. Three individuals, including a woman, have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.
