National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders have criticized opposition parties for directing their frustration towards the Election Commission after facing electoral defeats. This reaction follows a notice of motion submitted by 73 Rajya Sabha Opposition members seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The motion alleges “proven misbehaviour” by the CEC since March 15, 2026.
BJP National Spokesperson R.P. Singh suggested that opposition parties, unable to secure votes due to their own actions, are now blaming the Election Commission. Singh emphasized that these parties fail to connect with the masses, leading to their electoral losses.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel criticized the opposition’s “mud-slinging” tactics, stating that such actions undermine constitutional institutions. Patel highlighted past election victories of the Opposition in various states and questioned their sudden criticism of the Election Commission.
Former Union Minister and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey echoed similar sentiments, accusing the Opposition of baseless allegations against the Election Commission whenever they face electoral defeats. Choubey emphasized that such accusations lack merit and are unfounded.
BJP leader Rohan Gupta condemned the Opposition’s motives, questioning whether they desire unrest during elections. Gupta highlighted the peaceful conduct of recent polls in West Bengal and the significant voter turnout. He challenged the Opposition’s move to remove the CEC and warned against opposing successful election processes.
JD-U leader Saket Singh remarked that the Opposition, having exhausted their options, is resorting to extreme measures to oust the Chief Election Commissioner.
