The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is gearing up for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament by convening a Parliamentary Party meeting on July 21. This meeting, set for 9:30 am at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium, aims to solidify the NDA’s legislative plans. The session is slated to commence on July 20 and run until August 13, as confirmed by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The government is also scheduled to host an all-party meeting on July 19 at 11 a.m., a day before the session begins. This gathering is anticipated to outline the government’s key priorities while the opposition strategizes to challenge the administration on various contentious matters. The upcoming session is expected to be tumultuous, particularly with the opposition showing signs of disunity.
In recent developments, the Trinamool Congress faced a setback post its Assembly poll defeat, with 20 of its Lok Sabha MPs merging with the National Citizens Party of India. These MPs have requested separate seating in the House and reportedly pledged support to the BJP-led government. Furthermore, three Rajya Sabha MPs from the TMC resigned to join the BJP, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) witnessed a split with six Lok Sabha MPs aligning with the Eknath Shinde faction.
Moreover, seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs have switched allegiance to the BJP, further reshaping the political landscape. The opposition is poised to address issues such as the NEET-UG paper leak scandal and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s controversial statements on casualties during Operation Sindoor. Notably, the Congress has initiated a breach of privilege notice against the Defense Minister.
Simultaneously, the Joint Parliamentary Committee is expected to finalize its report on the contentious 130th Constitution Amendment Bill on July 17. This bill has sparked debates due to a provision mandating the automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and other ministers after 30 consecutive days in judicial custody for serious criminal cases.
