The Nepali government has introduced an online service for foreign tourists entering Nepal through land routes. This service allows tourists to register their vehicles and pay fees digitally, aiming to simplify the entry process for Indian tourists and other visitors coming via India. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle inaugurated this system, which enables Indian tourists and third-country visitors to complete vehicle registration and fee payments online, eliminating the need for physical permits at customs points.
Tourists were previously required to obtain temporary permits physically at customs points, with the additional hassle of renewing permits during their stay or facing penalties for delays. However, with the new online system, tourists can now apply for permits and make payments from the comfort of their homes, streamlining travel to Nepal. Finance Minister Wagle emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s dedication to good governance and efficient public service delivery, ensuring tourists encounter no difficulties and receive prompt, quality services.
The Director General of the Department of Customs, Shyam Prasad Mainali, highlighted the full digitization of permits for foreign tourist vehicles entering Nepal. Travelers can now self-declare vehicle details online, enhancing transparency and efficiency in the process. Tourist vehicles have the option to pay required fees either online or through bank counters, receiving a QR code via email upon online payment, which can be presented at customs for entry into Nepal without any hassle.
If the permitted duration expires, tourists have the convenience of extending their stay online from within Nepal. To utilize this service, users must visit the Department of Customs website, access the “Our Services” section, and select the “TIV” module to input vehicle details online. Upon completion, a QR code is issued for fee payment and entry, with the Temporary Import of Vehicle (TIV) module developed under Nepal’s National Single Window System to facilitate entry for foreign nationals.
