New information has surfaced in the probe of the alleged scheme to poison a large group of people during the Muharram procession in Mumbai. The accused, Faiyaz Premji, reportedly clarified to the police that his aim was not to cause fatalities but to create panic during the event. It is revealed that he conducted a trial beforehand to determine a non-lethal dosage.
Investigators have disclosed details about the accused, Faiyaz Nisar Hussain Premji (39), shedding light on his troubled family life, social alienation, and declining mental well-being. Prior to the Muharram procession, Premji booked a budget hotel near the route, where he procured thousands of empty capsules and a toxic chemical, zinc phosphide, which he used to fill the capsules.
The inquiry unveiled that Premji, dealing with personal turmoil and estrangement from his community, had developed animosity towards his own religion. Allegedly ostracized by religious leaders, he relocated to Pune with his family due to social isolation. Premji, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree holder, had a failed marriage and had been struggling with familial discord.
