A school building is under construction in Gauradaha Municipality, Jhapa district, eastern Nepal, supported by a grant from the Indian government. The foundation stone for the new building at Shree Janata Secondary School was laid jointly by Hikmat Kumar Karki, Chief Minister of Koshi Province; Gitanjali Brandon, Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu; and Chhatrapati Subedi, Mayor of Gauradaha Municipality.
The school infrastructure, costing around NPR 58 million, is part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and will be managed by Gauradaha Municipality. Chief Minister Karki and other stakeholders commended India’s consistent developmental aid to Nepal, anticipating a positive impact on the learning environment for students and teachers.
India and Nepal, being close neighbors, maintain a wide-ranging cooperation in various sectors, as highlighted by the embassy. The project’s execution reflects India’s continuous assistance to Nepal’s development endeavors, particularly in bolstering infrastructure in critical areas like education.
The High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) has become a crucial element of the India–Nepal development partnership, focusing on grassroots development in Nepal. Originally known as Small Development Projects and initiated in 2003, the program backs small-scale infrastructure and community initiatives throughout Nepal under local authorities’ guidance.
