Senior representatives from prominent New Zealand sports organizations visited Ahmedabad to inspect the city’s sports facilities and assess ongoing developments for future international multi-sport events, including the proposed Commonwealth Games in 2030.
The delegation explored the Adani Sports Centre at the Sabarmati Riverfront and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura as part of their broader assessment of sports infrastructure projects in India. The visit was facilitated by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in collaboration with Gujarat Sports Infrastructure Development (GSID).
During the visit, the delegation inquired about the planning and progress of AMC’s sports infrastructure, including construction timelines, budget allocations, operational aspects, and future expansion strategies. Representatives from Athletics New Zealand, Hockey New Zealand, Swimming New Zealand, Bowls New Zealand, and New Zealand Cricket were part of the delegation.
AMC officials mentioned that the delegation inspected the Adani Sports Centre at the Ahmedabad Riverfront in the morning of May 29. The coordination for the visit was managed by key officials from the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL).
Later, the delegation visited the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, where coordination was overseen by officials from the West Zone. The purpose of the visit was to provide the delegation with insights into Ahmedabad’s sports infrastructure and its readiness to host major sporting events in the future.
AMC officials briefed the delegation on the usage of facilities and the planning framework adopted for sports infrastructure development in the city. In anticipation of the visit, AMC ensured all necessary arrangements, including transportation and logistical support, were in place. Nodal officers from AMC and GSID coordinated the visit to ensure its success.
