NHPC’s Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Bhupender Gupta, conducted the inaugural blast for the 240-MW Uri-I Stage-II Hydro Electric Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. This event marks a significant milestone for the region’s power sector, initiating crucial construction activities. The project is expected to enhance power generation capacity and bolster long-term energy security in the area.
The successful first blast signifies the commencement of major construction work under the Uri-I Stage-II Hydro Electric Project. This development is crucial for strengthening electricity generation and improving energy availability, aligning with Jammu and Kashmir’s efforts to expand its power infrastructure. The project aims to tap into hydropower potential and reduce reliance on external power sources.
NHPC’s existing hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir, totaling 2,250 MW, have been instrumental in the region’s power sector. These projects include Salal HEP, Uri-I HEP, Uri-II HEP, Dulhasti HEP, Kishanganga HEP, and Sewa-II HEP. NHPC is also engaged in various large-scale projects in the region through joint ventures like CVPPL and RHPCL, contributing significantly to the state’s power generation capacity.
NHPC has approved a substantial investment program for capacity expansion in projects like Dulhasti Stage-II and Uri-I Stage-II, aiming to add an additional 500 MW of generation capacity. The ongoing initiatives underline NHPC’s commitment to enhancing power infrastructure and meeting the future energy demands of Jammu and Kashmir.
