The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated action following media reports on a factory explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, where three workers lost their lives and many others were injured due to an oxygen cylinder blast. The NHRC has sought detailed reports from the Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police within two weeks, focusing on the victims’ health status and compensation details.
In a separate incident, the NHRC has also reacted to a snake bite episode at a girls’ hostel in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district, leading to the death of one student. The Commission has directed the Jharkhand Chief Secretary to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks, emphasizing the current health conditions of the affected students.
The tragic event in the Jharkhand hostel occurred when four girl students were bitten by a snake while asleep after dinner. One student succumbed to the snake bite, while the remaining three are receiving medical care. The NHRC has underscored the potential human rights violations in this incident, especially noting the critical condition of one student referred to a specialized medical facility.
