The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at the residence of Gulam Nabi Bhat, a retired government employee, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The search operation took place in the Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar with assistance from the J&K Police and CRPF. Further details about the raid and official statements are awaited.
NIA has been actively investigating various high-profile terror cases in the union territory. Notable cases include those against JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, as well as senior separatist leaders Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan, Engineer Rashid, and others. In a specific case involving Yasin Malik, the NIA secured a life term for him and has sought a death sentence in connection with the killings of four IAF personnel, including Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna.
The agency is also looking into several other significant terror-related cases, such as the ‘Ansar Interim’ white-collar terror module case, Pahalgam terror attack case, targeted killings, terror funding, Hizbul Mujahideen over-ground worker (OGW) terror network case, and separatist funding cases. Additionally, the NIA probed an incident where terrorists attacked a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in Jammu’s Reasi district, resulting in nine deaths and over 40 injuries. The attack, which occurred on June 9, 2024, involved the bus falling into a gorge after being fired upon by terrorists.
