The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at various locations in Punjab’s border districts, including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Gurdaspur, in connection with the 2025 Amritsar temple grenade terror attack case. During the searches at 10 locations, incriminating materials such as mobiles, digital devices, and documents were seized. The attack outside the Thakur Dwara Sanatan Temple in Amritsar on March 14 last year was orchestrated by foreign-based handlers who provided explosives and weapons to instill fear in the region.
The NIA’s investigation revealed that the temple attack was part of a series of grenade attacks planned by different terror groups in Punjab. Foreign-based handlers were recruiting and funding individuals in India to carry out these attacks. The agency took over the probe from the state police and identified Vishal and Gursidak as the individuals responsible for hurling the grenade at the temple. While Vishal was arrested, Gursidak is deceased. Sharanjeet Kumar of Qadian, Batala, who supplied the explosive, was later apprehended by the NIA in Jharkhand and Bihar.
Sharanjeet, who received explosives and grenades from foreign sources, had hidden hand grenades and a pistol in Gurdaspur district. The NIA recovered these weapons during its investigation. The agency remains committed to dismantling terror modules that pose a threat to the country’s security and sovereignty.
