The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted its third chargesheet in a significant conspiracy case, naming Chandan Kumar as the sixth accused in the revival of banned CPI (Maoist) activities in Jharkhand’s Magadh zone. The chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court in Ranchi, Jharkhand, concerning a case initiated by the agency in December 2021.
Chandan Kumar, apprehended by the NIA from Mumbai in January 2026, is identified as a crucial figure in the operation. NIA’s investigation revealed that Chandan Kumar actively participated in raising funds for CPI (Maoist) by extorting money from contractors in the region to support the outfit’s activities, including procuring arms.
The probe further unveiled that Chandan Kumar was also engaged in reviving CPI (Maoist)’s Magadh Zone by motivating former cadres to re-join the organization. His alleged aim was to bolster the group’s presence and promote its ideology through violent means.
The chargesheet emphasizes that a prominent SAC Member of CPI (Maoist), Pradyuman Sharma, along with other accused individuals like Abhinav and Chandan Kumar, were part of a broader conspiracy to restore the banned organization’s operational capacities in the area. The NIA’s findings suggest a well-planned Maoist strategy to regain influence in the Magadh region through financial extortion and cadre mobilization.
This marks the third chargesheet filed by the NIA in the case, with six accused formally charged. The agency continues its investigation to uncover the complete conspiracy, identify additional operatives, and trace the money trail. The NIA’s efforts underscore its commitment to dismantling the financial and operational networks of Left-Wing Extremist organizations in the country.
